I am a home based worker for a large company, however there is no office to work from within 2 hours. Therefore I have to work from home and one of my rooms at home is used as an office. During the winter particularly, but through all the year this has a big effect on lighting, heating, water bills etc The company does not pay towards these costs, but is there anything I can claim back on tax? Like I have lighting but its simble connect to a plug and my strobe you have to control the speed manualy but turning the switch on the back, i want an easyer option, like connecting to my laptop and then downloading software that will be able to control the lighting.

Any CHEAP idears?

I need to plan a lighting scheme for a room. I have the room dimensions, 12 m long x 8 m wide, requires an illumination level of 500 lux, a utilizationf actor of 0.5 and a maintenance factor of 0.8.

I run 2 pond pumps and 4 sets of garden lighting through my electricity supply and would like to change this so it runs from solar power panels on top of my garage roof.

want to get track and wire lighting for my house, basically 2 wires hangs just below the ceiling and a spotlight hangs between the 2 wires…….any ideas what london shops sells these….need them urgent so i cant order off internet? and if anyone knows the price i would pay for these or price for installation?

We’re building on a large extension and had some input from an interior designer. She recommended strongly that we use a local lighting consultants to advice on type, placing etc of lights. We’ve never heard the term before and our friends think we’re mad to spend money on this. Has anyone used one and if so would you recommend it?
Phew, that’s a lot of questions Gare – I’ll have to think about them. Makes me wonder if the LC idea is more suitable for a total new build or a suite of offices. We just don’t want to make any mistakes – maybe we just need a better interior designer!

I need to add a water pump to raise the water pressure to my shower. I want to install the pump in my loft which is where the water pipes run, but the only power currently up there is for an existing lighting circuit.

Is it ok (i.e. does it satisfy Part P of the building regs, and IEE Wiring Regulations) to wire the Water Pump into this circuit?

Any good suggestions for lighting up a wood deck? Lights below? Above? Angles. Brand choice. Ideas.

I am building an energy efficient house. I’m installing solar panels for water heating, and aerothermic underfloor heating, as well as extra good insulation. I’m now thinking about lighting. Can anyone advise me about the comparative efficiencies of halogen v other light bulbs? The house should benefit from plenty natural light as there are large glass windows.

The stage is located next to a single court basket ball stadium, recessed into one of the sides. There will be about 20 rows of seating. There will be a projected image of the speaker on both sides of the stage – so lighting must be suitable for the cameras as well. The audience will range from 20 year olds to people in their 80’s. We will be lighting with par64’s and Fresnels. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

For example florescent lighting emits certain colours etc, what are the effects of the light reflecting of the colour.
