Is there a minimum drop for a ceiling pendant light?
What’s the minimum length the bulb should be from the ceiling (for safety reasons). I’d like to shorten the drop but not sure by how much

This would depend upon the style of the light and if it is open or shaded at the top. What type of bulb is in the fixture (halogen or other) and how hot the fixture gets. A little common sense can go a long way.
The electrical building codes in my area states that in a closet an incandescent fixture can be no closer than 12 inches from the ceiling or front of the shelf, but a florescent can be as close as you want.
Ceiling fixtures in rooms go right up against a ceiling. There is not the possibility of clothing etc being up against a ceiling fixture in a room and it is not in a confined space, but that same possibility exists in a closet that is the reason for the difference in code.
Hi there is no min length,i assume you are putting a lamp shade on the pendant make sure its still fits before you shorten cable,if you are cleaver enough you can change the ceiling rose for a baton holder which is as close as you can make sure you mark all cables before disconnection make a drawing,All the best John
