We have decided to swap the living room and dining rooms in our house, that is, use what is supposed to be a living room as the dining room, and visa versa. One problem is that the living room does not have an ceiling light. I would like to install some pendant lights in what is now the dining room for over the table.
My question is this… what is the best way to do this when there isn’t an existing ceiling light?
The room has a wall socket that runs turns off/on using the light switch. I would like to tie it into that light switch, but don’t want to have to cut into the ceiling and walls any more than is necessary.
Any advice would be great.
It is on the lower floor of a two story house.
placement
Is track lighting good for general lighting in a living room and kitchen. Understand if placement done badly it will create glare, be hot and shine in peoples eyes. If OK, what brand and size of lights should be considered.
do they make cfl bulbs that I could place in my recessed lighting in my living room? right now it looks like the bulbs in them are simliar to a flood light bulb, it probably is not, but thats what they look like. Also these lights have dimmers on them, I figure i’d have to find a light that is ok with dimming
I also have 6 bulbs in my bathroom vanity that i would like to replace as well, i believe the sockets on those are smaller than the standard cfl bulb.
thoughts?
how much were the cfl for your recessed lighting at walmart?
my vanity lights are not as big as an orange, they are a bit smaller..
I have a one story condo, with a another condo right above me. So I am not sure recessed lighting would work? But either route I go, recessed or track, how much should I be looking to pay? It is for my living room and a good 4 lights should do.
I have a ceiling fan in my living room that doesn’t have lights. Can I easily install a ceiling fan with lighting? What would I have to do to add lighting in my living room? There is no overhead lights at all. It is a house, not an apartment.
Hello everyone. I had a question about ceiling lights. My living room definitely needs more light and I don’t really want to have lamps or halogen lamps everywhere. I’d rather have a clean look with ceiling lights. However, I’ve never done this before. Someone told me that I would need to make sure that the house was prewired for that. Does anyone have experience with this? Where would I have to go to get this kind of work done? The house was built in 2001. Thank you
