I picked up a cute kid’s shade at IKEA, but did not buy the pendant light that they had (for ) since it had an ordinary plug for a wall outlet. I want something that mounts to the ceiling to replace an existing fixture. Oddly, I can’t seem to find anyone who sales a plain, ordinary, white pendant light. Lots of designer stuff is available, with fancy gold chains and decorative shades, for and up. I just want a plain round disk to mount to the ceiling, a clean white cord hanging down, and a fixture on the end that will take my shade and a 100 watt bulb. Does anyone know of any store, online or retail, who carries such an obvious product?

I have three recessed lights (put in by the builder, 5 years ago), that I would like to convert to pendant lights.

I know of three options:
- Portfolio conversion kit with light (, but limited shade selection)
- Well Hung LIght: 0 or so on line, large selection of shades
- The Can Converter (converter only): incl. shipping on-line (I know I’ve seen in Lowe’s, may be less there), PLUS the cost of the pendant

A couple of questions:
- any experience with any of these?
- would it make sense to get the cheaper Portfolio kit and then replace the shade (are the shades interchangeable with shades I might see at a hardware store)?

I’m not prepared to spend 0+ per light so the well hung light is likely out. Also, I’ve replaced many light fixtures, but I’m no Bob Vila.

Thanks

I’m looking to add a little color without replacing the shades, which I have researched and realized it will cost about a shade for the colors I want. I have so many shades, it would save me a lot of money if I could paint them myself. The existing shades are white semi-translucent glass. I’d like to add an aqua color to them, either solid or in a pattern, which may look better to hide the brush strokes)
