Track Lighting installation?
I’m looking to install track lighting in my apartment. Currently my apartment has one light fixture in the middle of the room. I want to replace this light fixture with a set of track lights on either side of the room and a ceiling fan where the original fixture is. Is this something that a relative novice can do? Or should I hire an electrician?

If you have any experience hanging fixtures you should be able to do this.
1 fan and two light tracks may be too much for the circuit. I’d think you’ll have to run wiremold at least. get an estimate and an idea of what THEY would have to do before you tackle it.
You say it’s an apartment, so you’ll have to check first with the landlord to see if he’ll let you bust a couple of holes in the ceiling to run wiring (which you’ll need to do with track lighting). Adding two sets of track lights and a fan in all likelyhood will NOT be too much of a load for the circuit. Original electrical installations are made knowing that people will probably add additional fixtures over the years, so the circuit your existing light in the middle of the ceiling is on should easily be able to handle a couple of more lighting fixtures. If the ends of the ceiling that you want the track lights to be on are parallel to the joists above, the job will be pretty easy (assuming there is no insulation in the ceiling). If you want independent control of each of the fixtures, then things get harder. I’d give you the steps to do this job given different scenarios but the more I think about it, the more I feel you’re probably too stupid to complete it. So nevermind. Live with the single bulb in the middle of your room.
